My brother and most others like him would get enough government subsidy to make it affordable, and he would have reliable, irrevocable health coverage as he turns 50 and will need more and more attention.

He will not get ANYTHING close to that under the meek, incremental maybes voiced by the opposition. He is screwed because the Republican leadership doesn't give a flip about him and 28 million others.

I've reached the point where I really think we should draw a clear line between those who want major reform done and the cautious incrementalists. Have a straight up majority vote and see what passes.

And the if the voters don't like the outcome, let them vote the do-nothin'-about-'nothin party back into power and they can block the implementation or repeal it or whatever.

At the end of the day, there are those who want something done and those making up endless reasons why it might be too scary. I've seen this same plot over and over in the US and other countries.

Some get it done, and some just keep going around in circles.

Last point - Obama's support is weakest among older whites. Most of the posters on SI are older whites, certainly those I see who are vehemently opposed to comprehensive healthcare reform. This is reform for the future. I hope it gets through while the handwringers keep on wringing and moaning.
