The problem is, the people who want to believe it will believe it. But there is a sizable segment of the population that simply doesn't know what to believe. It's important to reiterate and reiterate the observation about the deliberate deception. Debating the role of the state is completely legitimate. Making deliberately deceptive statements is not.
