Actually I think his critical specs were 7lb and 1080p. 17" vs 16.4" is a minor difference but the difference in hardware between the two with core i7 and GT 330M (not to mention blu-ray) more than makes up for it. The core i7 and GT 330M can move those 1080p pixels by a multiple factor faster than the MBP. It's like comparing apples and oranges (no pan intended). In any case, the original thread was more of an exercise on how much more hardware with half the money, can buy you in the PC world versus the Mac world.
