If you are taking an analyst's perspective, then you would know how lame it is to compare Medicare, Obama's proposed reforms and Nixon's price controls. Would you compare a minibus design to a railroad car? That's how much those two things differ in actual scope.

I could give you a dozen factors off the top of my head where the comparison could be picked apart. It only "holds up" on a talk-show level at best.

I'm delighted to have you back on the thread, but you have clearly made up your mind on these issues, and you cherrypick data and bend your models and assumptions and comparisons to achieve the outcome you had in mind from the start. If I saw you giving an objective look at the alternatives, I would assume it's something more than the crankiness that you and Kate are indulging in so dramatically in all your posts on this topic.

If we're going to kick back to old, loose comparisons, I would return to the dire predictions made about Medicare which turned out to be so much ideological leg-humping in the 1960's. I don't see anything different now.

It comes down to, we can't do this because we can't do this, and the argument is made mostly by folks who are already firmly and comfortably ensconced in the government-run healthcare system that they think is such a nightmare if it's given to another group in the population.
