I can see how creating more competition among insurance companies addresses their costs and profits, but how does it address the fundamental problem...escalating medical expenses?

It does to the extent that if the payer (the insurance company) has less money to spend then the vendors (the providers) will figure a way to cut cost to continue in business. But never said that was the end solution... just a part of it.

Our health care system is such a mess that it's really hard to get your arms around a solution. But we need dramatic change.... look at the increase in premiums and the increase in the under or uninsured. 20% - 30% - more increases in premiums.... from a base of the most expensive health care in the world by double.

It's crisis time.... serious crisis time. The Democrats bill isn't perfect, but it's throwing stuff against the wall to see what sticks. You scrape off what doesn't and move on.

Most folks on this thread are just against anything the Dems propose on an ideological basis. They have some modest suggestions... tort and across border. Nothing that would change the basics dysfunction.

Hope the Dems "ram it through" (as they say). Hard to see how it could be broke worse.
