The trust in what Martin accomplished is IMO vastly overrated... Too much smoke and mirrors to satisfy financial markets.. ..

Martin didn't accomplish it. The flood of cash from the GST accomplished it, and improving employment helped. And of course pretending he had no money didn't hurt. During the Chretien Martin years we lost much of the capitalization of the country. The powerhouse Corporations of the TSE were all cherry picked and sold out of the country, leaving only the dregs.
