iDevices (TriCorders) already have:

eyesight (3d binocular vision coming?)
hearing
sense of touch - I think eventually not just on the screen
sense of rotation/gravity

would not be hard to add temperature and possibly barometer

universal translation is probably pretty close - a few years

chemical detection and analysis is probably a long way off

I only like the original Star Trek for many reasons:

Cheap sets
Inside jokes
Creative beyond anything done before
Science (the Horta was based on silicon which is theoretically possible)

I also almost like the Borg episodes

I hate the soap opera mentality of the newer ones.

If they combined the best parts: Data, Borg, Spock they might have been better.
