Rant: Call and ask your Congresscritters: Can our Government be trusted to do anything that involves Entitlements in a fiscally responsible way? Most of us are waiting to see or hear of any………

The 1935 Social Security program is vastly different now from then…Do your children and grandchildren know anything about how this program was brought forward???? Probably not. Most people don't have an idea of what the idea was in the first place, nor do they know when the changes were made. There were some women in the work force before 1960, but not very many in comparison to today.

IMO, This Wiki review is well worth reading as an overview, and mentioning to as many people as possible. See WHAT changes were made, and WHEN and WHY they were made, and for HOW much, and WHO (what government groups) made those changes. NEARLY everyone who was born in 1935 until now has paid in some amount from the time they started working.

Working Grandmas and Grandpas have contributed payroll taxes all of their working lives. Unless they are ILLEGALLY here. The Baby Boomer Generation is from 1946-1964. This is a Very large group, and quite diverse in attitudes, IMO. I personally group them from 1946-1955 and from 1956-1964.

It really isn't the fault of the ALL the citizens that SS, and all the other entitlement programs are in the dumpsters….Congress ---both the House and Senate --- are the folks who make the laws. And the WH signs the legislation.

However, it is the fault of citizens who keep voting for the same people over the years that continue to lead this country into ruin.

See what party has dominated the programs for all these years, and also note what kind of financial shape these programs are in……In particular, note what party was in control of what branch/branches, and the Decades the changes were made…..

How can ANYONE in their right mind think that our Government can possible be honest, open, fiscally responsible, and trustworthy with yet another Government Lollapalooza Bill like either of the current proposed health care bills….?????

>>>>>The Act is formally cited as the Social Security Act, ch. 531, 49 Stat. 620, now codified as 42 U.S.C. ch.7. The Act provided benefits to retirees and the unemployed, and a lump-sum benefit at death. Payments to current retirees were (and continue to be) financed by a payroll tax on current workers' wages, half directly as a payroll tax and half paid by the employer. The act also allocated money to states to provide assistance to aged individuals (Title I), for unemployment insurance (Title III), Aid to Families with Dependent Children (Title IV), Maternal and Child Welfare (Title V), public health services (Title VI), and the blind (Title X).[10] <<<<<

The groups were not included, either by withholding taxes, nor did they originally receive funds from this program….

"Most women and minorities were excluded from the benefits of unemployment insurance and old age pensions. Employment definitions reflected typical white male categories and patterns.[11]

Job categories that were not covered by the act included workers in
agricultural labor,
domestic service,
government employees, and
many teachers,
nurses,
hospital employees,
librarians, and
social workers.[12]

The act also denied coverage to individuals who worked intermittently.[13]

These jobs were dominated by women and minorities. For example, women made up 90% of domestic labor in 1940 and two-thirds of all employed black women were in domestic service.[14]

Exclusions exempted nearly half the working population.[13]
Nearly two-thirds of all African Americans in the labor force, 70 to 80% in some areas in the South, and just over half of all women employed were not covered by Social Security.[15][16]

At the time, the NAACP protested the Social Security Act, describing it as “a sieve with holes just big enough for the majority of Negroes to fall through.”[16 "
