Honestly, I'm not upset about it. It doesn't really impact me, unless one of my kids were to come out of the closet. However, if someone were to ask me what my opinion is, then I'd tell them what I've been telling you. I'm for giving gays the right to civil unions recognized in every US state.

My mother told me something once when I was much younger. I was getting righteous about something or other with her and she told me that "the measure of a person's values are really only tested when they themselves are impacted by the issue." That stuck with me. I suspect it applies in this case as well.

Consider Cheney. He's as right wing GOP as they come, and yet, he is for gay rights. Why? His daughter is a lesbian. When you are impacted, that's when you decide what you really believe. Before then, it's all just posturing.
