what's to prevent a future GOP-dominated Congress and White House from using reconciliation to repeal the damned thing?

Socialized medicine of any type is hard to repeal. Many of the people who object to it today may come to depend on the new system the very day when it becomes active. Every elected official will face a constituency which will be increasingly vested in the new system. Some will depend on it for their next paycheck, others will love its redistributionist perks. I think that ultimately most of us will regret it, but to repeal it may be nearly impossible.... maybe until after we learn the lesson which people in the former socialist block have learned so well.
