Obama is working with Medvedev on a new nuclear pact. That's what these reductions are part of.

Also, it's just plain smart. What most folks don't realize is that a large part of our arsenal is not launch ready. Much of it is kept in storage. All of it requires maintenance at great cost. In addition, it has to be guarded. Getting rid of the nukes that we don't need will save us tons of money and actually make us more safe.

What our focus should be on is having the nuclear capability that we need to deter, as well as to inflict punitive measures should the need arise. Anything more than that is a waste of money.
