"why is it silly ?" Because it is pretty clear there is a strong genetic component. If you have a gay sibling, the odds of you being gay is far higher than in the general population. If it were an in-utero virus, then the frequency of both of an identical twin being gay would not be higher than for fraternal twins. And it is.
