Well, the current management has been embezzling the stockholders savings. The United States' current system of financial and corporate governance just isn't working to send the correct pricing signals. Perhaps, the laws - the rules of the game - need to be tweaked to increase the accountability of the management -- NOT to politicians, but to shareholders. "Happily ever after" happens only in fairy tales. In human relations - and in business arrangements between people - there is always some give and take, some struggle. Handing over responsibility to a third party - the political classes - is a grave error. Socialistic approaches are not the solution - they are the failure.
