Brazilian company Odebrecht announced Haiti's capital airport, Port-au-Prince's Toussaint Louverture International Airport, which was closed following the earthquake on 12 January, is now functional and ready to resume daily commercial service.

American Airlines will resume passenger service to Port-au-Prince on Friday, with flights from Miami International Airport, Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood international Airport and New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Odebrecht partnered with American Airlines to refurbish the departures and arrivals terminal at Toussaint Louverture Airport, as well as refurbishing the American Airlines cargo facility for passenger check-in and Customs and Immigration with a construction schedule of three weeks.

At the departures and arrivals terminal, three floors of an existing building that sustained minor damage have been repaired to provide 23,000 square feet of terminal inbound and outbound capacity. Repairs were also made to three passenger loading bridges, three lifts and three escalators, which are all now operational.

The existing American Airlines cargo facility was changed into a one-floor, 13,000 square foot processing terminal. It includes an operational baggage system, customs and immigration services, bathrooms and office space. Cargo functions have been moved to a nearby building.
