Builder Profile

Mike Moneyhan.

I built my Magnum with my wife Jo in one year, (over a two year period.) we worked every day on her, put in about 1400 hours. We started building her in Wisconsin at a friend (and employer’s) hangar. (he had built the hangar for his Falcon 50, and found he needed a larger hangar when he got a Falcon90EX, so he was kind enough to let us use his old hangar to build our plane. My wife and I decided to quit the sea, and moved ashore to Washington State. We went to Wisconsin and picked up our partially completed plane, and finished her in a one car garage.

First flight was in October of 1999, but after about 75 hours, the oil pressure would go to around 5 lbs so I had the engine torn down and found out I had a cam spauling problem. The engine was an IO 320 Lycoming H2AD. So, I was not flying for about two months.
I put the engine back in around January of 2000, met up with John Wright and we flew all over Washington, Oregon, and Idaho.

I then flew down to Savannah Ga to help a friend start a business. Then a year later, flew up to Maine to take a job on a new build yacht, did that for two years, and I am now in Vermont, with about 600 hours on my plane.

Enclosed are some photos!
All the best,
