"There is a connection in that prostitutes are typically "the vulnerable", but if your going to go with that connection as relevant I'd point out that making their activities illegal makes the more vulnerable."

The people who are currently choosing prostitution are more vulnerable when operating within an illegitimate business because they don't have the support of legal authorities, except to get out of the illegitimate business, which the majority are for. That is true for every type of criminal activity, but not a good justification for legalizing criminal conduct.

"...and the criminal acquaintances of the people who might go to the cops would at best be suspicious and at worst murderous if they found out that someone talked to the police.

This is true whether reporting bullies on a play ground or ratting out the most heinous criminal. But, not a good justification for allowing the behavior or making it legal.

"If your trying to change the subject that's fine, we can talk in more general terms about the vulnerable people in society, ..."

I'm trying to broaden the parameters of the discussion because I don't think the simple economics and regulation of a whore house does justice to the idea of prostitution at large.

"...but you presented the stats in the same post as a response to my points about the legalization of prostitution, without a clear transition to another subject.

I consider this my transition paragraph:

"When persons are considered without community kinship and as objects to be exploited for pleasure or monetary gain, they may become victims of dehumanization by powerful others. When we establish supportive policies, institutionalize practices and legitimize the economic functions within society which condone prostitution, we also sanction the ideas that the sexuality of some people, mostly women and emasculated boys, are economic property to be exploited by powerful others. The evidence lies in the fact that those who are most vulnerable lack societal power which can be associated with economic security, low social class, and minority status. When we establish this as a common community value, it reaches across culture into the homes of our sons and daughters everywhere."
