The Dems picked a poor team to run - Kerry/Edwards - Poor candidates for widespread appeal and poor campaign.

Same reason O won - Rs picked McCain - who was not popular with the base and independents. That plus O ran a great campaign and the economy tanked at the right time for him.

Same thing will happen if Rs pick Palin for next election. This should be the dream on this thread because she be the weakest candidate they could pick for broad appeal.
