Hi Everyone,

I'm brand new at value investing and thankfully stumbled on to this forum. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. To show you guys where I'm at here is my rookie evaluation criteria:

PEG Ratio < 1
P/E (F1) < 10
P/B < 2
P/S < 1
Current Ratio > 1.5
Quick Ratio > 1
Cash Ratio > 1.5
ROE (TTM) > 10

I came up with 3 stocks:
NNI
HUM
FLY

I'm sure you guys are laughing my amateur criteria, but hey I gotta start somewhere. How do you guys initially screen for value stocks and avoid false positives/negatives in your search? How do you evaluate your stocks after your initial search? What tools (i.e. software, websites, and sources) do you use?

Paul Senior, I was skimming this forum from the very beginning trying to pick up on some basics and found something you told some doc back in a 1996 post. You said “you’re a doctor, ipso facto a lousy investor". I found this hilarious b/c I'm a 25yo medical student (not a doc yet) and trying NOT to be a lousy investor. Thus my screen name.
