Rubber Man, D A Smallberg: Why Zitel? Secret Contracts? No. Silver Bullet? Likely.

A number of Longs on this board and on the MF board have invested much time and energy to research the MD product, the Y2K market, and Zitel's progress to exploit its Y2K market niche.

Don't let the truth of the next statement be lost by the amount of criticism it will generate. Amongst the biggest revelations of the last several months has been the degree to which we Longs have hurt ourselves with tit-for-tat responses to Short challenges. Specifics of research have resulted in calls to prospective leads from Shorts (and Longs alike) which have interferred tremendously with Zitel's sales efforts.

Suffice it to say that IMHO, Zitel may likely prove to be the closest thing to a 'Silver Bullet' that the market will see. Shorts will be quick to tell you that Zitel Management couldn't market its way out of a paper bag. Even if that were true, the nature of the Y2K market -- most notably the delay in problem recognition by both the Government and Commercial sectors AND the lack of enough knowledgable COBOL programmers to address the problem in the timeframe required -- will mitigate any and all shortfalls in Marketing savvy.

No, I don't believe there was unreported Y2K Revenue from 'Secret Contracts' for which services had been performed at 9/30/97. (Unannounced contracts from which revenue had not been recognized at the time of the conference call are not precluded, to the best of my knowledge, by any statements made by the Zitel Management team.

Many would advise, that unless you can afford to speculate, you should consider staying on the sidelines pending a definite revenue stream. Frankly, however, I've got to go with Jack King on this one. The Northrup/MD announcement gives tremendous validity to the MD product. That coupled with Zitel's exclusive on portable factories is more than enough comfort for me and other Longs to ride out this temporary dip.
