Poll: Voting for Senate bill is suicide for pro-life House Dems

A series of polls in eight targeted Democratic congressional districts in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana found that three in five voters believe that “abortion and abortion funding have no place in healthcare legislation.”
Two-thirds are opposed to “using tax dollars to pay for abortions,” and majorities in seven of the eight districts surveyed said they would be less likely to support candidates who disagree.
That means big problems for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who is attempting to marshal her party members to support the Senate version of Obamacare which, unlike the House-passed version, will allow taxpayers' money to fund abortions.
The House bill contains the Stupak-Pitts Amendment that prohibits the use of federal funds for abortion. Rep. Bart Stupak, D-MI, insisted on inserting his amendment to the House health care bill as a precondition for his vote – and the votes of a dozen other pro-life Democrats who have no such incentive to vote for the Senate version of Obamacare.
The congressional districts of Rep. Jason Altmire, D-Pa., Paul Kanjorski, D-Pa., Brad Ellsworth, D-Ind., Baron Hill, D-Ind., Steve Dreihaus, D-Ohio, Charlie Wilson, D-Ohio, Marcy Kaptur, D-Ohio, and John Boccieri, D-Ohio, were included in the poll.
“These pro-life Democratic representatives face a stark choice: either they are heroes in the face of tremendous pressure, or they are the ultimate betrayers,” Susan B. Anthony List president Marjorie Dannenfelser said. “In these districts, voters reflect national pro-life trends, and they expect their values to be translated into public policy.”
Conducted by inc/WomanTrend, the polls were commissioned by the Susan B. Anthony List, a pro-life alternative to the pro-choice Emily’s List.
