I can tell you categorically that the other side of the debate says that we have the best care in the world, that folks from socialized medicine countries come here for care, that folks who don't have insurance have access after all (now that's ridiculous, to use your description), etc...these are the prevailing talking points of the conservative position...

Well, I agree with them that folks without insurance do have access, not perfect access, but access. I'm confident that I can make a strong argument for that.

My point is that taking that position doesn't mean that I am defending the current system. I'm merely trying for accuracy. I do think that your judgment of what is or isn't a defense of the current system is off base. Discussion is often more nuanced than that. It ain't just "fer me or agin me."
