I "assume" that you consider Fox News the gold standard in news reporting,...
I don't know how you came up with that, but for the record I had my TV service discontinued about a year and a half ago.
News which is actually worth my while is getting harder and harder to come up with. The networked news is a terrible waste of time unless you just like to see predictable left/right spins on every thing under the sun. There are highly significant conditions in the world that are remarkably under reported, in context with their counterparts. For example: I consider the following a partial list of significant Global issues that are current and serious.
Highly significant: “It is estimated there are between 143 million and 210 million orphans worldwide (recent UNICEF report.)”
Highly significant: "Water - the essential ingredient for life on this planet – is becoming an increasingly scarce resource. According to the World Bank and World Health Organization, 2 billion people lack access to clean water and 1 billion people do not have enough to even meet their daily needs.
Every day an increasing amount of pollution seeps into rivers and lakes making them toxic to humans, and underground aquifers – our most significant sources of water – are being depleted at an alarming rate. (Arlington Institute)
Highly significant: According to UNICEF, 25,000 children die each day due to poverty. And they “die quietly in some of the poorest villages on earth, far removed from the scrutiny and the conscience of the world. Being meek and weak in life makes these dying multitudes even more invisible in death.”
Highly significant: "According to the RAPE, Abuse, and Incest National Network (RAINN) Statistics website , there were 247,730 victims of RAPE, attempted RAPE or sexual assault in the United States in 2002. Approximately 87,000 of these were victims of completed RAPE."
Highly significant: "An estimated 50,000 women and children are trafficked into the United States annually for sexual exploitation or forced labor. (U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, 2000)
Highly significant: In 2005 the International Labour Organization (ILO) estimated that human trafficking had annual profits of approximately US $31.6 billion. In their 2002 report, the ILO states that 1.2 million children are trafficked every year for labour and sexual exploitation."
And, in the context of other significant issues and conditions in the American South West, Tatum's Cocaine use is not very significant. But best wishes to her and her family, I hope things are going better for her.
