Anybody!

Look what happened today:
I had a sell order in to sell APTX (2000 shares), put in yesterday after close.
It was executed at 18. Result was I sold short 1800 shares of the new company. I wanted to cover the short position at 151/2 but the broker guy told me I was not short!? This is strange because it was confirmed in my account sheets, I have a copy of it.
So my result of 4500 could not be delivered by the broker!
What happened? Was my account used for a broker/MM play or what. Does anybody have any idea of what I can actually do. Should I cut a deal or is there any legal back up here?

I am curious!
Can anyone clarify?
