Where are the manufacturing factories in the US today?

Many supermakets do manufacturing to order, bakery, meat packaging and Delicatessen, even drug store and banking. Typical super markets hire 300-450 part time workers to do multiple $10s of millions of dollars per year at 2% profit or better.

Clothing manufacturing in NYC and LA are done at home by contract suppliers.

Housing manufacturing are windows and doors assembly plants. But kitchen and bathroom appliances are big, and wood industry is big. Concrete and steel for business buildings.

Car manufacturers are changing from steel to plastic cars, the new assembly plants use plenty of labor. Whereas, the old steel cars are made mostly by automatic welders. Plastic is cheap, but assembly labor is more intensive.

So, many factories are changing manufacturing methods, even MacDonald's fast food changed their assembly method in making cheap fast food cost less to distribute.
