This is incorrect. There are still a number of old and new players operating independent of any major suitor (telco or otherwise). Most of the new guys are VC backed and debt-ridden, while only a few specialized or regional players are profitable. Additionally, the IIXC deal pretty much eliminates PSIX from this list.

When this thing goes, it will be a fire sale. There are a good number of legacy customers and some equipment worth salvaging, but time is on the buyers side (take a look at the sale of Netrail in Atlanta for a snapshot of things to come). The IIXC deal is either a stroke of genius on the part of IIXC management, or a major blunder on the part of PSIX. After looking at both of these companies in detail, I would bet the later is more likely.
