I certainly can't believe that Ancors new switch is simply not good enough to compete with Brocades in the domestic(U.S.) OEM market.

A. Henry,

I will reiterate that OEM's do not have systems ready waiting for FC switches to plug in. The switch must go out for evaluation, surrounding products must be designed, prototyped and tested, then, 3-12 months later, the product can be announced

Brocade's 1 Gig Class 2,3 switch was ready before the MKII. This gave Brocade a head start on integration and building systems using such a switch and hence you are likely to see announcements from Brocade before Ancor (like the DEC announcement). Ancor currently has the best switch so they are likely to win many OEMs. The OEM's that require class 1 and FC-AL are likely to go to Ancor as they have the first product to market in these arenas, but there remains product development time. DEC has had Brocade's switch for quite some time and just now the partnership was announced. Ancor is now helping to design and build products under NDA's with its new switch.

Ancor is working on new switches. So is Brocade. A hypothetical scenario could be that Brocade will announce a new switch in, say, February. Then Ancor may announce 3-4 OEM deals. People will say "Brocade just announced the best switch, but Ancor is getting all the OEMs!".

The deliveries for Ancor's old switchs were at an all time high last quarter and they are not nearly done yet. Those switches were announced quite some time ago.

Does this help or confound?
