Ted, don't get too excited. Rush would only fly to Costa Rica for medical treatments.

Just like that Canadian public official who flew to Miami for a procedure. I thought Canada had a better health care system than us.

First of all the Canadian official lives in the US part of the year.....presumably when he's on hiatus. It was then that he wanted to have the procedure done. But lets assume with that particular procedure, the American health care system is better which leads us to the critical issue....roughly 10-15% of the population could never afford the procedure because they don't have health insurance. In addition those who have health insurance might not be able to afford the procedure because there are limits on how much their policies will pay for a particular procedure. Finally, because premiums continue to spiral out of control, many self employed individuals as well as small companies are being forced to drop their health insurance coverage. In the last few years, the numbers going off health insurance has been increasing.

Bottomline: American health care system while substantive in some ways is lacking in others with the result being that we pay more than most countries and have a shorter life expectancy. How many people do you know that would pay top dollar for a product that doesn't benefit them as well as it should? It doesn't make sense. Nonetheless, the right, the wealthy and some lefties have kept us hostage to this system for decades when all the advanced countries and many of the lesser countries have gone to universal health care.
