[Ed Whelan] This article from Monday’s Washington Post poses the interesting question, “Does President Obama’s next Supreme Court nominee need to be a Protestant?” According to the article, although “51 percent of Americans identify[] with one of the Protestant religions,” “the Supreme Court would for the first time in its history be without” a Protestant justice if Justice Stevens retires this year and isn’t replaced by a Protestant.
