Seems screwy to me that buying organic food, "green" light bulbs or Priuses, etc is even considered morally virtuous, as moral acts at all. Perhaps a general confusion about moral issues is involved as well as the "compensatory" affect the study claims exists.

"seeing green products, which symbolize high ethical standards and selflessness"

I don't buy that. And I question whether its really a very deep symbolization of ethics.

There may be an inborn conscience involving moral/ethical issues like lying, stealing, and other things that have been considered wrong for all of human history and in all cultures ..... but the idea of "environmental virtue" is very recent in origin and only held by a few. I question how deep this "environmental virtue" is even among those who allegedly hold such ideas.
