Why can't these people with the runaway cars simply reach down and turn off the ignition key? This latest guy in the Prius seemed to have the wherewithal to get the CHP on the phone.
Wonder if he had a handheld or handsfree?

How many times while behind the wheel, have we stuck in our keys to start the motor and pulled them out after parking without even looking?

I saw the same thing reported with a guy in an Explorer, calling 911 in a panic about his runaway vehicle, with no idea what to do.

IMO, if you don't know what to do in this situation without calling 911, you shouldn't be driving.

"Once the Prius' speed dropped to about 50 mph, Sikes turned off the engine and was able to coast to a stop, the officer said."

"Landeros didn't know why the driver waited until his speed had dropped to turn off the engine, but the officer speculated that Sikes feared losing the car's power steering."

Oh, bull$hit.

Next we'll be reading news on MSN about iPhones exploding in peoples hands.

Hello, 911? its my iphone. Its getting really hot and I dont know what to do. The plastic is melting and its stuck to my ear! LOL
