ElM, You are obviously unaware that the UN is not a democratic institution. People in China do not decide who represents them. Nor do people in Syria or Libya or many countries. Even where there are democratically elected governments, the constitution of the UN is that of a WWII Victor's Club, with Fiji having a comparable vote to that of India and United Kingdom and France having veto power disproportionate to their economic or population inputs. <We have the UN. Why are the problems not solved there over the proverbial cup of tea? I tell you. because there it would be visible democratic and everyone would have a say. > Even if there is full democracy, there is no ethical foundation to do things such as voting to make certain groups slaves or candidates for genocide. A majority vote for slavery doesn't make it right. I have long advocated a reconstitution of the UN to a more sensibly constructed and limited body which doesn't pronounce on absurdities. Meanwhile, unfortunately, it remains a matter of good manners, nice cups of tea, reasonable discussion, and atomic bombs. People who think shooting in the back during armed robbery is the way to live are not normally amenable to the nice cup of tea approach. C'est la vie. Mqurice
