SEC investigates Rocky Reid in massive stock manipulation probe
BusinessWire, Monday, November 03, 1997 at 16:48
Washington, D.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 3, 1997--The Securities and Exchange Commission has announced a probe into the dealings of Rocky Reid, an individual investor that lurks on Internet investor sites, posing as a simpleton in order to coerce others to invest in companies in which he holds stock.
Mr. Reid apparently purchased 1,000,000 shares of Syquest (SYQT) at very high prices, and is lurking on Silicon Investor's Iomega thread taunting others to buy stock, even as he sells it at current market prices, which, as anyone with half a brain would know, are wildly inflated.
He has made many inane comments on the thread in order to get the attention of savvy investors that know Iomega will crush Syquest's attempt to return to any form of profitability in the foreseeable future.
An SEC agent, who goes by the code name of Truflette, has been monitoring Mr. Reid's posts for months, and has finally gathered enough evidence to prosecute Mr. Reid for "utter inanity" (is that a word?).
More information will be provided as the investigation continues.
