torn achilles...the first time i heard about this was when unitas tore his. about six years ago i tore mine. my tear was not painful, it was like a cramp in the calf. but it's quite odd not being able to extend the toes and it's a funky granddaddy limp. a bit scary for a professional athlete like beckham, since the body's the money. my rehab was a bitch--very slow improvement. and the foot/calf is still weaker than the other leg. i'm sure beckham's procedure and rehab will be much better than mine, but i wouldn't be surprised to see him retire earlier than planned. at 34 he's about done anyway.
