ElM, you racists live in the past in false memory of tribal lineage.
There is nobody alive today who sold opium to people in China in the 19th century.
Anyway, even if there were, it's up to the people in China whether they want to buy opium or not, and up to the sellers whether they want to go to the effort of growing, harvesting, processing, transporting and selling opium.
There is no point in whining about what happened centuries ago. Life back then was one giant alpha male tribalism of conquest, empire, looting, genocide and anything to get the upper hand. People were nothing but tribal property. That's unfortunately still the case though in many countries there is at least the pretence of "freedom" and "democracy". But nowhere is the state owned by the citizens rather than the reverse.
There isn't much point in moaning about things that happened even 70 years ago. My ancestors were murdered, robbed, and made refugees. That was bad luck for them. Some of my ancestors murdered, robbed and conquered [I suppose, if I could go back and look far enough].
Any Chinese who moan to me about opium as though I had something to do with it or carry some responsibility deserve to be laughed at. I doubt that there are any stupid enough to do so. That's reserved for backward Amazonian Crocodilians.
There's no need to appease - just threaten with atomic bombs if they don't behave in a civilized way, with proper tea ceremony etiquette. <Invite them for a tea to appease them, MQ. Maybe they will forget those sales of opium... > As per Godwin's Law, Adolf didn't need appeasing, he needed a bullet in the brain.
In 1910, WWI was still 5 years away. I wonder what is 5 years away from 2010. Will China choose MAD.
