No, I do not miss the point. The vast majority of Americans are against paying for the things that matter most. It is common for politicians to get elected without saying much more than 'we da people dunno wanna pay'. Look at California -- a complete disaster of a state. Then look at the prospects for ever doing anything to fix Prop 13 -- the cornerstone of 'we dunno wanna pay' policies. The financial elite don't care about public schools -- they would never ever lower themselves to send their kids there. So they don't care -- no shock on that score. The shock is that the rest of us don't care either. We are led around by the nose by people who chant nutjob slogans about taxes -- and now its all about 'da banksters'. The American political arena is jam packed with loud people shouting completely insane and vacuous nonsense. We have no priorities -- none. So we let others define them for us -- and yes, the oinking of financial services scum lead the chorus when it comes to setting our priorities -- because we never bothered to ask for anything more enlightened then 'lower my taxes'. Stupid people get the leadership and outcomes they deserve.
