HONG KONG - China Aerospace International Holdings (CASIL), in a joint-venture with a French manufacturer, has recently developed a state-of-the-art digital satellite TV receiver. The company, a listed arm of Aerospace Industry Corp. under the Ministry of Aerospace Industry, plans to become a key player in Hong Kong's high tech market.
"We expect to recoup the investment within the year," said Terry Lui Pin, general manager for research and development. He would not say how much had been invested.
CASIL intends to market the product in the Asia-Pacific region while the French partner would focus on the European market, Liu said. More than 10,000 receivers will be delivered to Europe to test the market.
The market potential for digital satellite TV receivers is great, Lui said, with growth expected to be supported by the trend toward digital TV.
The company is currently in talks with central government ministries, including those for aerospace, electronics, and post and telecommunications, to cooperate in the further development of high tech products -- October 15, 1997
