John;

I am a rock-ribbed fiscal conservative but I believe that the post WWII GI Bill and the Interstate Highway Act were two of the prime movers for our economy in the last half century.

Interesting comment. So why do conservatives fight with every breath against today's transportation ideas and today's GI Bill improvement? The recent improvements to the GI Bill that brought funding forward for today's world was fought against even by the likes of McCain. And efficient means of transportation - high speed rail - are treated as if they are evil spawns of the devil by republicans. I'm a conservative too - but I don't want to return to living in caves. China is going to pass us up like a speeding bullet as we sit twiddling our thumbs bemoaning the evils of government.
