John;

Thanks for the well thought out comments and arguments.

Everybody should be in favor of good ideas at the right time and right place

It will take a vision - a passion. Many of your comments were made I'm sure when they wanted to spend all that money on the interstate highway system - but thanks goodness they did. But Doing rapid transit sooner rather than later means it is inherently cheaper and easier than at some point in the future - when the need becomes even that much greater. We don't have the same situation as the rest of the world, sure - but some of our transportation problems are worse. And the east and west coast corridors are prime targets - what you don't think there are enough users?

We have millions of people unemployed and it is going to take a generation to get them working. What is your solution - more housing? Compete with China on cheap crap sold at WalMart? Put people back to work on the farms? Americans have so much crap we fill up and pay for storage units to keep all the shit we will never use again - what we need more? ......America has to find a solution for the hoards of unemployed. I would never suggest working people on projects that we don't need - but the traffic in my part of the world has become so bad that something has to be done. And yes make them user friendly and convenient by all means.
