John;

The Feds should only be doing those things that benefit all the people and things that only they can do.

Rail service does benefit all of the people - at least as much as the highway interstate does. If not to transport people then transport goods. ......You don't think you are now paying huge amounts for the congested parts of our country to upgrade the Interstate Highways that is very very expensive? Sorry that's just a fact of life.

Buying something now because it will be more expensive in the future is one of the reasons people become debt slaves. I don't buy that argument.

A lot of people don't and in most times I agree. But we have lost millions of jobs over the last decade as our population has swelled. If you don't put them to work, you are going to be paying for them to live off the government subsidies. Again - not something you or I do not agree with - but its a fact of life. I'm a selfish bastard and if my tax money is going to be paid to someone - I want something in return! You pay your tax money for food stamps and hospital admissions for the unemployed because that is just what we do as Americans - I'll pay my tax money for new schools, fast internet, fast transportation, better electric grids- those things that make for a better more competitive America and put people to work so they too can pay taxes.
