I think when it comes to professions the strict libertarian approach could be problematic. You want a lawyer who actually went to law school and passed the bar. If you go to a doc who is licensed and board certified, you know that at the very least you deal with a person who did a huge amount of homework, and had the discipline to go through years of hard training. With alternative practitioners this is not always the case.

I think if the state would remove itself from the licensing and credentialling business, not very much would change. The professions would find a way to self-regulate.
