I think if the state would remove itself from the licensing and credentialling business, not very much would change. The professions would find a way to self-regulate.

I think so as well. Well maybe not as far as "not much would change", but the change wouldn't be as great as some people think.

Which is one reason I disagree with your leading sentence about the libertarian approach being problematic in this case.
