Yes, thank you. I see I misspelled it in my original post. It's "a'bunadh," not "a'bundah," but who cares. Maybe I was a dyslexic Scotsman in another life.
A number of single malt distillers produce cask-strength versions, and they are all fire in a bottle.
I understand Laphroaig makes one. The first and only time I opened a bottle of 80-proof Laphroaig, I was shocked. The advertising literature uses phrases like "exceptionally peaty," "smokier than other Islay malts," "reminiscent of sea salt and leather," and "some may find a medicinal aroma surprising." I thought it reeked like iodine.
However, after a drink, it began to grow on me. After two, a glow set in and the sea salt and leather thing seemed plausible. After three, or four or something, I lost all reason and my mother-in-law began to seem attractive. I have not drunk Laphroaig since, and it is not a place I wish to go again. I cannot imagine what a cask-strength Laphroaig would be like.
