You don't get the disconnect. Just think about it. What could possibly be the reason for an American woman giving birth to a child in a foreign country making a phoney announcement thousands of miles away and perpetuating that lie where her son has to maintain that fiction with his friends in school and for the rest of his life etc. The fact that he grows up to be president is irrelevant in all this. For a large number (however you parse this - the number is large) of people believing this is more than insidious and more than just odd behavior. It is not just some crazy uncle that believes this, but a very large number of people.
