Basketball isn't my favorite game to watch, but the last five minutes of March Madness games are great drama. There is nothing they can do to make the NBA interesting. The first Thursday was fun:

1. Ohio University, which nearly did not make its conference tournament (but then won it) beat the overrated Georgetown Hoyas. This would be pure joy if it wasn't for the fact that the evil Roger Ailes, of Fox Fictional News fame, is a Bobcat Alumni. But I have some Army buddies who went to this smaller school and I'm happy for them and underdogs.

2. A lot of the upsets were not really upsets. Many pickers liked Murray State over Vanderbilt. Notre Dame should never have been a #6 seed in the first place. St. Mary's was simply the better team and had been all season. Why Richmond was the pick made no sense to me. The Gaels beat Pac 10 champ Cal by 40 points (but those of us from the Bay Area know that they always give The Golden Bears fits, even when Cal was national champs).

3. Everyone is talking about parity, but both Kentucky and Kansas looked a bit better than the teams they routed.

4. Today I've got my eyes on UC Santa Barbara and Temple, two very underrated teams.
