That is true. It's too bad we don't legislate by pulling commissions of experts together to come up with solutions and then voting those solutions in. I agree that politics really gets in the way of good solutions.

Sorry, but I couldn't disagree more. Legislation by committees of experts has been tried - in the USSR, among other places. You are describing what would be inevitably tyranny by committee.

To an extent, this is what we have now - committees of politicians voting in laws written by staffers, lobbyists and other "experts". But now, at least they are somewhat accountable, as they are about to re-discover come fall.
