In more recent years elder or dependent adult abuse cases have created an unlimited possibility for high awards. These generally involve nursing homes or home health care providers who fail to provide adequate care to the elderly or infirm.

I wonder where we are going with these nursing home cases. I know of no other industry that has such a low reputation. We all have a good chance of ending up in one.

Obviously, A nursing home owner, for profit or non, has an incentive to minimize costs by keeping labor at a minimum. I doubt they set out to run the snake pits we hear described.

We know these places are filled with elderly who have dementia of one sort or another, and a lot of them have no bowel control.

When relatives show up to visit, they feel guilty about their parents being there. And are predisposed to find fault. Since you are dealing with minimum-wage labor, either entry level or older failures who can't find better jobs, and supervisors who would rather be doing something else, it's not hard to find things wrong.

Costs are getting out of sight. The more Gov supervision, the worse things get. I don't have any answer.

As a business man, if I were running such a place, I would concentrate my efforts on personnel. Try to hire happy, optimistic people. Contact and hire from the gay community as much as possible. They tend to be more empathetic.
