Ok. Time for put an end to this Honest John nonsense ... The Honest John Truth ... John was a cocky 19 year old with highly sophisticated computer engineering/architecture skills who noted a flaw in TD Bank's security system. (This was before the days of hacking and what he did was not considered illegal) His intent was to prove a point, and to get TD to fix the problem (as TD's system had created problems with his bank account and for a 19 year old self-supporting University student, that can be lethal!) Remember, he was smart, cocky and 19!!! and knew computer architecture better than 99% of the people on the planet by then. This was still early in the days of computer technology and computers weren't very sophisticated.
TD was forced to review their security once they realized how vulnerable they were. (There was a brief period of time when the computer system simply had all the money sitting 'in a pool' without being attached to any accounts).
Back in those days so many computer geniuses were doing similar things - like John Draper, the famous phracker who hacked into phone lines, etc.. John was having conversations with these guys on the West coast, the original "hackers" who, like him, revolutionized computer technology (because they were curious). The term "hacker" back then, did not mean what it does today.
Ultimately people like John helped make banking/telephone/computer based systems more secure.
ftr John still has alot of that cocky 19 year old in him, and you can all be glad that he does!!! lol :)

Hipichikk..The post is not completly true. You didn't know John then. Me being a relative know the real story.
Is it possible that the truth has been stretched a bit. I guess vengance is all I can think of at this moment. How people love to hear gossip...they thrive on it don't they.
So instead of giving bits and pieces at least wait until he can defend himself

Hey 2 bigcats, are you Shirley, John's mother? Thought you had five (cats that is). Anyway, that is the story John told me for four years. Are you saying he told you another version? (I didn't think he was lying to me when he told me this, many times, cause I was always curious about how he did things.)
