"A very large percentage of the electoral opposition is built on gross misinformation. A good political campaign should reduce that."

Unfortunately, it's very difficult to correct emotionally charged, erroneous information that's taken root.

The gross information should have been attacked when it was first introduced. Now some of it has become so much a part of the "common wisdom" that Republican spinners can run on for sentences using such terms as "health care takeover," "burden on our children," and "public funding for abortion" while reporters, analysts and even Senators sit at their shoulders and let them get away with it.

It's as though they got too tired of trying to rebut the untruths from so many different, and orchestrated, sources or maybe they think that having rebutted them once they can now focus on other issues.

The Republicans and the people that feed them their talking points are smarter than that. If the Democrats finally join forces and find key phrases that give a lie to the untruths the Republicans need not even engage. They know they've won, they know that the Democrats won't be able to change minds that have reached other conclusions and they'll already be in the middle of their next "make fools out of the public" campaign.

The sad thing is that they're very good at it and the Democrats are always playing catch up, and not playing it very well.

Where's Bill Clinton when you need him? Whoops, I forgot, he's pretty much a Bush senior conservative himself. Ed
