I knew I would forget something in there. But when you look at all the years that Republicans held the White House after Ike, their ability to deliver lasting change was minimal.

I disagree with that. The biggest change in my lifetime was the end of the cold war. I grew up assuming that a nuclear exchange between the USSR and the USA that would end all life was a very realistic possibility. I no longer think that and see that as a "lasting change."
