The concept of Medicare is Single Payer Universal Coverage I meant Medicaid. I know the difference between the two programs, swapping them in my sentence was rather sloppy and confusing... And I meant the general concept (support for treatment of the poor), not the method of executing the concept (a large federal health care insurance program), even though I'm not really fighting much for a change in method. The concept of Medicare is Single Payer Universal Coverage The idea is supporting older people in paying for medical care. The method used is single payer "universal" coverage for the group. I find the method more problematic in this area (where you aren't just paying for the poor) than for Medicaid, and I find the idea behind it also rather problematic. A safety net for the poor is far more reasonable than a large package of government benefits, regardless of your income or wealth, just because you happen to be a certain age. I don't generally want the government to take my money and fight in every country in the world Well good for you then, because they aren't doing that.
